Getting Started with Running Kiddos

A practical guide for PE teachers who want to understand the app before using it with a real class. Learn the core concepts, the setup order, and the daily workflow.

The Core Concepts

Running Kiddos is built around the way PE classes actually run: you prepare rosters, schedule a class meeting, record what students did, and review progress later.

How Running Kiddos works: one-time setup for classes and students, then repeat each PE session with session planning, activities, attendance, results, and reports
Running Kiddos separates one-time setup from the PE session cycle teachers repeat every class day.

Class

A roster group, such as Morning PE - K/1st or Midday PE - 2nd/3rd. Reports can be filtered by class.

Student

A child in your roster. Students can belong to one or more classes and can have printable QR cards.

Session

One scheduled PE class meeting. A session has a date, class, status, attendance, notes, and selected activities.

Activity

What students do during PE, such as Running Laps, Pushups, Plank, Sit-ups, or a custom school activity.

Record

A saved student result for an activity. Examples: 8 laps, 25 pushups, 45 seconds, or 4 participation points.

Reports

Views that summarize attendance, activity records, class progress, student progress, trends, and parent sharing.

Recommended Setup Order

Use this order when setting up a new school account. It keeps the app clean and makes the first real session easier.

Create classes

Set up the groups you actually teach. Class names should be clear enough to pick quickly on mobile.

Add or import students

Add students manually or import a roster. Assign students to the right classes before printing QR cards.

Create the first session

Select the class and date for the PE meeting. A session is the place where attendance, notes, and activity records stay together.

Add activities to the session

Choose what students will do in that session. Start with one or two activities until the workflow feels familiar.

Print QR cards if needed

QR cards are most useful for lap days. You can still enter records manually for activities where scanning is not helpful.

A Normal PE Workflow

When What To Do Why It Matters
Before class Create or open today's session and confirm the selected activities. Teachers can see missing setup before students arrive.
During class Take attendance, scan QR cards for laps, or enter records directly. Records are saved while the activity is fresh.
After class Review gaps, add notes, and complete the session. A completed session signals that attendance and records are finished.
Later Use reports to review classes, students, activities, trends, and parent links. The same records become progress evidence without extra spreadsheets.

Tip: if a session has no selected activities, add them before class starts. This keeps attendance and records connected to the right PE workflow.

What Teachers Should Try First

For a first test, create a sample class with a few students, add Running Laps and one strength activity, then create a session for today. Record attendance and a few activity records, then open Reports to see how the data appears.

If you are onboarding a new school, demo data can help teachers explore without touching real rosters. Once the workflow is clear, start again with the real class list.
